...it was more a case of Bloom Bloom than Broom Broom in
Milan yesterday when Italian police grounded a fleet of
floral Fiats on their way to the design centre of Milan
for the opening day of Salone Internazionale del Mobile,
the biggest event on the international design calendar.
The cars, each of which had been decorated with a floral
livery created by one of five designers, were scheduled to
drive around the Zona Tortona, promoting the beauty of
flowers to the audience of design journalists that frequent
the Zona on Press Day. However, en route, they were
flagged down by police, and deemed unsafe to negotiate
the equally hazardous Milanese traffic. The cars were
given a police escort with motorbike outriders who stopped
traffic in order to let the floral convoy through to the
Via Tortona, where it has been carefully replanted in
front of the Hotel NHow.The designers include Karim Rashid ( small picture),
Arik Levy, Fredrikson Stallard, Studio Arne Quinze
and Studio Job ? all major names on the design circuit.Fiat 500

- Gate System by KFF

It's a steel frame with leather or fabric upholstery on 2
height levels and comes in different standard widths: from
67 cm to 201cm. This also means one can sit on both levels.
High and low. Inward and outward. One can sit low, facing
forward and using the backrest, or one can sit the other
way around and use the backrest as a working surface
(books, magazines, laptops etc). The bench is approachable
and to be used from all sides, so hence the "interactive"
remark, because it invites to communicate. The inner and
outer angles provide great versatilety and one could make
a "snake" bench that goes on for miles. Because of its
versatilety GATE is meant for all purposes: home, office,
public areas etc. Everytime one adds on a new element, you
can fit the joint in the last leg, there is enough space
to continue and add more on.Designer: Formmodul

- Complex City Wall Decoration Collection

This project is an exploration to find a concealed aesthetic
by using the pattern formed by the roads of the city which
have been growing and evolving randomly through time, thus
composing the complex configuration we experience today.
I perceive the city's patterns as living creatures that I
recompose to form an urban image.
This project which started from Seoul where I was born and
have grown in, is expanding to other cities all over the world.

- Art Cologne

ART COLOGNE inspires more spirited debate than any other
leading international fair for modern and contemporary art.
The broad spectrum of art it presents ? from important
modern works to the latest art by today?s
artists ? provokes conflicting opinions and in-depth
discussions in the art world.
For those who would like to add their voices to the
dialogue, a visit to ART COLOGNE is a must. We can
assure you that the trip to Cologne will be well
worthwhile. More than 150 top international galleries,
including the leading art dealers from Europe and abroad,
will be presenting their offerings in Halls 4 and 5 at
the Cologne exhibition centre. In combination with a
top-quality special exhibition, art from the 20th and
21st centuries ? with a strong emphasis on works by
modernist, post-war and contemporary artists ? will
ensure a fascinating experience and a unique atmosphere
for buying art.
The ART COLOGNE programmes ?New Talents? and
?New Contemporaries? introduce young artists and new
galleries to the international art market. And with
?Hidden Treasures?, a new programme making its debut
this year, ART COLOGNE shows that its scope extends
beyond today?s dominant fascination with the
contemporary. The programme will feature individual
presentations of works by as many as five
?hidden treasures? ? artists 40 years or older whose
works are clearly important from an art historical
perspective and thus relevant for today?s art market.
And for collectors, this also means desirable art at
rather attractive prices.Date: 16 - 20 April 2008
